Specialized University in the Field of Medicinal Aromatic Plants
Artvin Çoruh University was selected as a specialized university in the field of "Medical and Aromatic Plants" in 2020 within the scope of the YÖK Regional Development Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project. For the studies to be carried out in this context, "Medical Aromatic Plants Application and Research Center" and "Medical Aromatic Plants Specialization Coordination Office" were established. At the same time, our University's Medical Aromatic Plants and Plant Gene Resources Laboratories (TIBMER) provide a suitable environment for the projects carried out in this field and the academic studies planned to be carried out.
In order to obtain sustainable benefit from our medicinal-aromatic resources, the existing species richness must be evaluated by considering the conservation-use balance, and biological activity (such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticarcinogenic) research must be carried out. As a university specializing in medicinal-aromatic plants, our University will contribute to our region and our country becoming more internationally competitive in the plant-based pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries and to safely transferring our plant genetic resources to future generations.
At our university, a team of experts in the field of medicinal aromatic plants has started the production of cosmetic products that can reflect the brand value of our university and the city. Natural extract was obtained from local plants and this extract was made suitable for use in liquid cosmetics such as cologne, essence and perfume, and solid products such as soap and hand cream. At the same time, a natural and healthy protective extract from medicinal aromatic plants that will help protect wooden materials was obtained as a result of laboratory studies carried out at our University.
In summary, developing medicinal aromatic plant production in our city and obtaining high value-added products is very important for the economy of our city and our country.
